Bay Oaks Advisory Committee The purpose of the Bay Oaks Community Advisory Committee shall be to serve Lee County’s Department of Parks & Recreation and the Town Council of Fort Myers Beach in an advisory capacity, engaging in and providing effective citizen requests, analysis and recommendation consistent with the intent of the direction of the Department and Council as they relate to the duties and responsibilities. The Committee was establish as part of the Interlocal Agreement between Lee County and the Town of Fort Myers Beach regarding Bay Oaks Recreation Center and Community Park. Members were appointed and the committee was formed in March of 1998. The Bay Oaks Advisory Committee has accomplished: ·The replacement of the Bay Oaks Gym floor, a $150,000 project. ·Dedication of one of the courts to Larry Costello, an ex NBA Player and Coach. ·Dedication the Little League field to Rod Vayo, a former coach and umpire. ·Received approval from the School Board to construct two new tennis courts on school property. ·Secured funding and installation of the Disc Golf Course. ·Sidewalk ground breaking of the sidewalk from Estero Boulevard to the pool area. ·Working on a comprehensive landscape plan for Bay Oaks and the surrounding area. Goals for 2002 include: ·Out field fences to be replaced on both ball fields ·Two tennis courts completed on the school property. ·Complete the landscaping project. ·Building of the shelter next to the existing tennis courts. ·New signage for Bay Oaks. Possible Capital & Other Improvements are: ·New ceiling and lighting for the gym. ·More lighting by existing tennis courts. ·Fountain in the pond entrance to Bay Oaks. ·Upgrading Teen position to regular status for a Teen and Sr. Programmer. ·Community Information Board on Estero.
