6. Review of Financial Reports for May

7. Discussion with the Sheriff- This agenda item allows for a discussion between the Sheriff and the Council concerning enforcement of Town laws and a draft agreement. This draft agreement provides that the Town is already paying 5.2% of the Sheriff’s budget for 1.8% of the population ($2.35 million) and consequently does not offer any additional dollars for Town enforcement. However, the agreement does provide for the opportunity to negotiate additional dollars if additional services are required.

8. Presentation on Lee County Solid Waste Facilities Assessment

9. Future Parking at Bowditch Park- This agenda item allows for public discussion on the Council’s action of June 2, 1997. At that meeting the Council asked for local input in the planning and approval process for future parking in Bowditch Park. The letter sent to the County is included in the Agenda Packet.

11. First Reading on Ordinance Amending the Vessel Control and

Water Safety Ordinance- This item attempts to clear up confusion on speed

limits in marked channels and also raises a loophole on the water vendor

exemptions.

12. County Resolution appointing the rotating municipal member to the TDC – This item references a Sanibel resolution that would ask for additional representation on Lee County Tourist Development Council for Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach.

13. Approval of the State Tourism Grant- Discussion of letter sent to the

State on matching requirements for this grant. Letter is in Agenda Packet.

14. Proposed Ordinance providing for amendment to Section 34-2174

of the Town of Fort Myers Beach Land Development Code to

prohibit use of setbacks to allow increase in height - Requested by

Councilman Isler

15. New Business

Mainstreet – Presentation by Fran Myers on the implementation of the Mainstreet Program.

d. Sidewalks on the South End – Discussion of utilizing existing county

contractor, excess county funds in sidewalk repair project and Town dollars to

keep contractor on site and do south sidewalks now rather than waiting for

future promised funding.
