John Mulholland Mayor John J. Mulholland 1928-2000 John was elected Vice Mayor of the Council in January 1999 and Mayor in January 2000. John's Town Council Subject Assignments were environment, harbor, bay, coastal management and parks and recreation. Before being elected to the Town Council, John served as the first chairman of the Local Planning Agency. In the summer of 1997, John formed the Marine Resources Task Force (MRTF), an advisory committee that deals with issues relating to Fort Myers Beach's bay and nearshore Gulf waters. Under John's guidance, the MRTF has initiated a comprehensive beach and dune management plan, an organization of the Matanzas Harbor and the installation of an AM radio braodcast with environmental information, to name a few projects.
