Hidden Path
Pedestrian and Bicycle Path Concept Work Shop Planned
Can anyone say that when they walk or ride a bicycle on many parts of Estero Blvd. that they feel safe? If you’ve ridden a bike or walked on Estero do you find it to be an adventure sometimes barely worth the risk? With vehicular traffic coming at us from multiple directions and the increase in walkers and cyclists sharing limited roadway and sidewalk space, can we allow our children, our seniors and everyone else to accept these sometimes dangerous conditions without at least discussing safer alternatives? If you believe like we do that these questions need to be creatively addressed then now is the time to get involved. Local government works best when it has the participation and input from its citizens. Getting the right information and facts through direct participation, forming an opinion and voicing your ideas based on that information is a hallmark of a truly democratic process.
On Wednesday, January 28 at 6:00 PM at Town Hall the Community Resource Advisory Board (CRAB) and the Town of Fort Myers Beach invite you to attend a presentation and hands-on workshop to discuss the feasibility and possible design of a pedestrian and bicycle path. Experts in the field of path design will be on hand to present the various concepts, concerns and ideas. Hands-on participation with visual aids will be provided so that you can become a part of the process to begin to determine whether we can or can’t do this project. Outcomes from the workshop will be provided to the Town Council to aid them in their decision on how to proceed.
As background, the “Hidden Path” concept originated from citizen ideas formed during the development of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan back in 1996. The town council and staff then directed CRAB to explore the possibility of a path and CRAB subsequently identified it as a top priority. For the last two years CRAB has been painstakingly gathering information on this project and now we are at the point of presentation and public input. Before you make up your mind get the facts by joining us in this hands-on workshop and become involved with this critically important decision as to our community’s future safety and quality of life direction.
